Brown

These were the boundries that I was allowed to wander anytime I pleased

There was a place right by the old school house that was the Pierrepont-Potsdam townline and as kids we would jump and say I am  in Pierrepont jump again and now I am in Potsdam.

We would go behind the Brown’s by way of a path that was across from the end of the ---- Road. A farmer must have mowed the path for us each year, We didn’t care about the blood suckers that would attatch to our legs and arms. When we got out of the water we would just pull them off.

Another place we would swim was gotten to by a path along the Meenan’s property to a place we called the falls. There were large stones with moss and slime on them that we would ride on our bottoms down. Sometimes showing off seeing how long you could stand up and go down. With the fast moving current right there we no longer had to worry about blood suckers. We would catch small little crawdads and play with them. Some on had lined rocks in a semi circle to make a small pond that might have been a foot deep. I wonder now exactly who put the stones that way. Had it been years before ??

Summer time meant kick ball in our side yard with as many kids as we could get together. I still remember my father getting upset over our baseline and bases. They were whatever we could find. He would never have that nicely groomed lawn as the neighbor. Neighborhood kids and his kids were having way to much fun. And in the end that is more important than a great looking lawn as my Dad never did win that battle.

Behind out house was what seemed like an endless forest full of scary things. My brothers and I would sneak and take our fathers hammer and nails and old pieces of wood and build forts between trees. More than once my father would look for his hammer only to have to trudge through the back 40 and find his hammer and forbid us to ever use it again. No we did not listen very well as it would happen over and over again.

Around the corner lived an elderly lady named Nellie Dandy. I remember thinking she was the most interesting person I had ever met. I loved how her hair was always in a neat up do all the time, I also remember that she made me feel welcome and at home when I would just show up at her door.

On the very end of the street was another elderly couple named the Eastbrooks, Don and. They lived where the Crary Mills Might Mall would end up being years after I left the Mills. I was always selling greeting cards or stationary to make money and they always bought from me. In those days in the back of magazines were places you could find companies that you could sell there items and keep part of the money for yourself. I believe I still have a piece or two of stationary and some birthday cards that would make their way back to me from grandparents and such.

We were always taught to call everyone Mr and Mrs so through my stories as I use their given names that is never how I referred to them.

Jack and Sally Taylor always had an ice rink behind their house. Sometimes we would put our skates on right in the house and walk over to the rink in our skates. They had large flood lights on the rink. I remember having to shovel it off if we had a new snow fall. My brothers thought me a pest as they wanted to always to play hockey and I just wanted to skate. I have skated my whole life without learning how to stop. From those early days of plowing into a snow bank to slowing down and hitting the walls at the arena in Canton and then Massena as my children got older. My kids all had skating lessons and do a much better job than their mother,

We were outside most of the time summer or winter. We had a large black and white Television that had the possibility of 13 channels although we only had 3. One was out of Watertown NY channel 7 and one was a Canadian one and the other a PBS. Canada who on earth would watch that channel that was a whole other country ? I know that is how I remember feeling. Never realizing that someday I would learn I have many Canadian ancestors and that I was part of an immigrant family. The 2 shows that I probably remember the most was gun smoke and the Beverley Hillbillies . Gunsmoke with Matt Dillon Miss Kitty and Festus was on Monday nights.

My mother had a huge stereo that had a radio and record player in it. It was a 3 foot by1 foot large cabinet that housed everything and when you were done you closed the top and you didn’t know it was in there. My mother would play records by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Inglebird  Humperdink , She would stack the records and they would fall one after another on top of the other and you would have hours of music without having to go and put another on. I especially loved the Christmas Albums my Mom would put on. She had many and of these and I remember sitting next to our Christmas tree listening to the beautiful music.

I remember during the summer a man named Arnold Barnheart  would walk by our house talking to himself and swearing. We were told to stay away from him and so I was scared of him. He was always carrying a brown bag and staggering around the road. Later was told that he had been in one of the world wars and suffered what we now call PTSD but at that time was called shell shocked. I know some of the kids would throw stones a him to make him go away. I wish his story would have been told then as I know there would not have been fear. I don’t remember ever hearing of him hurting a soul.

Starting 2014

As I sit here today, and look over the past year, I'm amazed at the changes that have taken place in my family. Brandi was married to Kazz Marsey on June 1st 2013, in Palmyra New York Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A reception was held at churches girls camp. Many of Kazz's family traveled from Mousiouri and Idaho and Vermont to attend the ceremony and reception. Another reception was held at our home and Massena New York on June 22, 2013.

Jack also married this year to Bobbie Cartner on November 22, 2013 and Massena New York. They were married by the Massena town justice Gerald Scharlow at the town hall. Jack and Bobbie gave us a whole two days' notice of their wedding. Although done very quickly it was a sweet and touching ceremony.

So a year that started with three children and one grandson, ended up with Jack and I having five children and a grandson. Having all of our children out on their own has been twofold for me one of elation and the other of sadness. I tend to hang onto old ways and feel that I always need to rescue them when times get rough. Although watching them handle their own problems when I stepped back gives me great pride in all of them.

Conner age 8, is growing so it is always a delight to have around. He is now in third grade and just loves to read. Michelle has a hard time keeping enough books around for him. We are so proud of him and love him so much. He loves Legos and sits by the hour playing with them. For Christmas this year Conner was given a laptop, TV, snowboard that is just to name a few so he had a wonderful Christmas needless to say.

A few days after Christmas Jack moved from his apartment at laurel terrace To Bobbie's apartment on East Orvis Street and Massena. Bobbie has hyphenated her last name to Cartner-Vaisey. Jack and Bobbie traveled to Wolcott New York to visit grandpa Vaisey and then on to Buffalo New York for Bobbie to visit her aunt and uncle for the first time in five years.

Brandi and Kazz moved to Idaho falls Idaho on November 21, 2013. On their way driving across the U.S. They encountered a blizzard in Wyoming and were stranded there for two days. It was a rather the scary experience for all of us. But thanks to many prayers they finally made it to the new apartment. Brandi started a new job January 2, 2014 at a veterinary clinic near where they live. Kazz will start Brigham Young University Idaho on Monday January 6, 2014. Our prayers are constantly with them. Kazz's father J P Johnson and his wife Lynne live very close to BrandI and Kazz. That makes our worry much less as they have family that loves them nearby.

At the beginning of November I started to have gallbladder attacks. Two weeks before Christmas I had my gallbladder remove. At Massena hospital. Dr. Daye was my Dr. Shortly after getting home I had some complications and needed to go back into the hospital for five days. I am now home one month after surgery and get better each day. I'm so glad that my gallbladder is no longer with me!

As soon as I and back on my feet fully Jack and I will be on our way to Florida to stay with my parents. That day cannot come soon enough for me right now. As today the wind chill factor was minus 36°. I have not ventured outside my front door and two days.

Here's hoping that 2014 is a good year for a growing family, for faith in god, for love, for forgiveness, for understanding within our family.

Way overdue writing

Christmas 2013
Conner and Michelle celebrated with us on Christmas eve day. Jack and his new wife Bobbie celebrated Christmas Day with us at our house. It was very quiet and low keyed. I had just got home from 2 stays in the hospital so this was all fine by me.  We so missed Brandi and Kazz but know they are having a wonderful holiday in their new home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Kazz has a lot of family there and Brandi felt so welcomed.

This year was destined to be different with 2 of our children newly married. Brandi and Kazz were married on June 1, 2013 in the Palmyra New York Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Jack and Bobbie were married in Massena at the Town Halls by the town justice Jerry Sharlow on November 22, 2013.

Jack and I are very happy for these 2 wonderful additions to our family.
Conner is getting so big and will be 9 years old in March. he is a happy little man all the time and adores his mother very much.

Jack and I will celebrate our 29th anniversary in Jan and hope to be in Florida at that time.

10 days with Conner

Old post that did not get posted

We got to enjoy Conner's company for 10 whole days. 10 days of good morning Grandma, I love yo u Conner, I love you Grandma, Can I have an ice cream cone ? Not right now you have to eat real food first. But ice cream is food. I know it is a food eaten after healthy food.
Grandma do you think there is a new Skylander out yet, can we go to Walmart and see and then Game Stop and any other place that might sell video games?
Reading, reading, reading with Mommy. Wow can that child read well. He is growing so fast and is so smart. I want him to slow down and be little forever but he says I can't stop that. Some how he has his whole life planned out ! He is going to Plattsburgh State to be a teacher like Daddy. Then after and not until he graduates he will marry someone from Malone and have 1 child. These are his exact words ! Way too funny !
He provides the best comic relief ever. Half way through the movie Zookeeper being showed at the Hawkins Point Visitors center he says this is boring I want to go play with the displays.... Gee grandma was just getting into the movie ! So off for an hour with Mommy to play with the displays. I may see the end of that movie someday.
And ICE we had more than ever and he loved getting on his sled and just slipping down the driveway. His little rosy cheeks are so kissable.
Then off to Canton go Grandpa, Grandma and Conner and Mommy to stay at the Comfort Suites so Mr Conner can swim...The little fish is immune to cold water and would jump from the hot tub into the cold pool and play basketball.
Our 10 days ended way too soon. But we enjoyed every second of it. Some pictures of swimming.

Funny day

Brandi has just had Gastric bypass surgery and I have been driving back and forth to Saranac Lake. One of my mornings went like this. When I turned from the Nicholville to St Regis Falls and then to Saranac through the Santa Clara forest these things happened. 1st a dead deer beside the road which always makes me unhappy. 2nd a small fawn jumps into the road sliding across the pavement (oh what a road burn) then proceeds to run frantically in front of me in the road for 1/2 mile over a hill as I held my breath. Then finally of into the woods. next was a flock of turkeys that seemed to wan to let me know the road was theirs until they decided to walk off. Ok so all the wildlife ends. Next road has a lovely road block with Border patrol and State Police "yes I am a US citizen". I finally think I am on my way...oh no PAVING as I sit for quite a while for a truck to lead me around a 2 mile 30 mph stretch of highway to the other side of the road detour !!! Finally landing me at the Hospital a little after 9 am. For me that is quite a complication to ake place before 9am. But it did make my day. For those of you who don't know this route there is nothing and I mean nothing between these to spots except BEAUTIFUL FOREST.

Wow long time for no post

It has been a very eventful summer filled with good and bad. First I believe it was the hottest summer I have seen since the summer we built the addition onto our home which was about 1990. Jack and I can no longer take this heat like we used to. I am enjoying the Fall weather and getting a lot done. Today I made 10 quarts of applesauce. Jack and I just enjoyed a bowl of vanilla ice cream with hot applesauce. mmmmm well worth all the peeling. I actually sat in my rocking chair on the porch and pealed the apples given to me by my friends Kathy and Gary.
We were able to spend a lot of time with Conner this summer. He and Gramma and Mommy went to Alex Bay and went out to Boldt Castle. No I had not been there before. Looking at it through his eyes to made it all the more special. But his favorite part of the trip was the arcade and go carts. Michelle took him in one and they had a steering wheel for him so he thought he helped drive !! He is such a joy and blessing in all our lives I thank God every day for him.

" Debbi's Memories"

My business "Debbi's Memories" was started in 2007. At first we concentrated on my son Jack's photos and made greeting cards and sold them at craft fairs and to friends. We still have a lot of cards and are going to be marketing them more now. For two of years I worked on one project doing a complete family history for a special friend of mine. I was rewarded last year with an unbelievable trip to the beautiful country of Wales and England. I find myself open now for expanding and doing more Family History Research for people. The St Lawrence Historical Society has been good to send people my way. I will either do your Family History for you or teach you how to start your own. I will do large or small look ups for people. Wills, Census, Naturalization's, etc. I love doing genealogy and have been doing it for 26 years. So send me on searches for you and I will do my best. Also I will scan pictures for you and either give them to you on a disk or create a book for you from them. Debbi
